Bottom 5 Worst Pokemon TCG Sets Ever Made

The Pokemon Company has released the original Base Set cards and 45 other expansions throughout the 14 years of the franchise. Many of the sets contained some of the best cards ever made, many of them include Base Set Blastoise, Base set Charizard, Neo Genesis Feraligatr, Gym Challenge Blaine's Arcanine, Unleashed Ursaring (Prime), Undaunted Vileplume, FireRed & LeafGreen Pidgeot, Base Set Gust of Wind, Rising Rivals Luxray GL Lv X, and Secret Wonders Magmortar to name a few.

However, there exists a handful of sets that were overhyped, only to come up short (Legends Awakened) or that have barely any worthwhile cards in it (Team Rocket). There are some sets that are good but are riddled with bad rares (Neo Genesis, Supreme Victors). These following sets are the most abysmal collections of cards ever complied. Sets never worth buying packs of, sets with tons of crap and very little good. These sets are fucking awful.

THIS LIST IS MY OPINION AND NOT FACT!

5.

The lineup of this set is very weak. It centers around Leafeon and Glaceon, just two Eeveelutions with not much else. Unfortunately, this set was the result of a set split of the Japanese set, Moonlit Pursuit/Dawn Dash. Because the Pokemon Company wanted to wait a while to try to fit the TCG closer with the (really horrible and unwatchable) Pokemon Anime Movies, they decided to cut the set in half. The other half was Great Encounters which had all the amazing cards like Claydol and Unown G, and all the nice legendary Level X cards. Majestic Dawn was left with pretty much next to nothing in terms of epicness and worthwhile cards, along with some other cards to be translated that also were little of importance.

This set is nearly devoid of any notable cards whatsoever. Many of the art (which some from the Entry Packs) are mundane in design (Torterra and Raichu, I’m looking at you). Many of those also have forgettable rudimentary attacks like Thunderbolt and Earthquake. Then there is Mom’s Kindness, which is just a Supporter version Bill (that Bill would also be reprinted and be identical to MK, ironically), which is just a slap in the face when they were better cards like Felicity’s Drawing. To MD’s defense, there is that Mewtwo card is really good, a somewhat nice Infernape, and best of all Leafeon Lv X and Garchomp Lv X, which are pretty nice cards.

In the end, Majestic Dawn was just a leftover set more or less. Kind of like an splicing experiment gone wrong and they abandoned it as a standalone thing. Had PUSA/TPCi had done far better management, this set would have not existed and instead the cards would be part of something bigger.

Out of all the new kinds of pokemon variations to come out over the years, the most ridiculous was Delta Species. The Delta Species are pretty much pokemon that are retyped into different types. At first, the some of the pokemon would have an added Metal type onto them (i.e. a Metal/Grass Beedrill) but other would not make sense at all (Electric/Metal Dragonite, Electric/Metal Rayquaza, Fire/Metal Mewtwo, Fire/Metal Salamence, Fire/Metal Tyranitar, WTF?).

It seems that many of them seem to based off their color or whatever, but not all of them follow this trend. The Delta Species would remain for the rest of third generation of the TCG up until the penultimate EX set, Dragon Frontiers (the only set that the Delta Species were absent was Legend Maker). All those other sets made less and less sense with their weird nonsensical experimental type changes that had nothing to do with the games (Fighting Meganium, Psychic Typhlosion, and Lightning Feraligatr? explain that shit to me?). But at least they had better cards like Gyarados * delta which made sense, and Holon’s Castform.

Fortunately, the set introduced the semi useful Holon Pokemon that supply energy, thankfully. The set also had some nice shiny star pokemon of their own (the weather trio). So not all is bad here.

I had no choice but to add ALL 3 e-reader sets, because of how much they suck. The sets were too GIGANTIC! 165-186 card sets! 72-82 possible rares! This set is too long, you can buy a box of those and still have around 45 rares left to get if you collect. And the booster pack is reduced to 9 cards at the time of Expedition, too.

Expedition had too much of too much. All 1st and 2nd gen starters, repeated twice. Tons of 3 stage lines. Tons of a lot of things. Not to mention there were cards like Kingler and Skarmory that were flippy as rares AND rare holos. This set also had some horrible e-reader connectivity that had stupid games or whatever from the Dot codes. What a horrible waste of a set.

The same can be said about Aquapolis. It was a mess and many MANY cards were unplayable like with Expedition. But at least it had Crystal pokemon, but they were all bad anyway.

Skyridge was the last set that was released by Wizards of the Coast before they lost the lincese to the Pokemon Company. The set also had gigantic card cord and was way too cluttered. But this time, they had better Crystal Pokemon, but despite that, it still was a bad set anyway and from here on out, it got better.

The absolute most pointless wastes of sets I’ve ever known. Pretty much all these things are, just some poorly made idea to create mini sets of promo cards, where the booster didn’t have guaranteed rares. Everything about these sets is pretty much a TEASE. Every pack contains 2 cards (they later added a filler energy to make it to 3 for shits and giggles) and most of the time you will pull 2 commons out of those packs. These pieces of shit are so worthless, it makes me sick.

And not to mention, they would have the GALL to add in ultra-rares, for further teasing.

-The first PoP had 2 lame useless excards, and some interesting rares that amounted to nothing.
-The second PoP had Celebi ex, which was better than the ex’s before, but good luck pulling that from a PoP pack! The rares were uninteresting and bland.
-The third PoP had reprint Ho-Oh ex from UF that and some Eeveelutions.
-The fourth PoP had reprint Deoxys ex from Emerald and some Flygon.
-The fifth set had not one, but TWO * Pokemon, Espeon and Umbreon, that looked really nice. Too bad you have dig out from mountains of packs to get one! Not to mention how good they looked which means you had to shell out money out of your ass to those cards. FUCK YOU, Pokemon USA! Goods thing they did not fuck with the Primes and put them on Undaunted.

The rest of the sets had shit that were either reprints, or cards nobody gave a shit about. Not mention the rares (not ultra-rares) get holo treatment so that shows how much those are worth. Bottom Line: PoP are a fucking waste.

1.

What could worse than a pointless series of mini sets? Let’s see what worse:

As of time of writing, this set has yet to be released. But I know that the set will comprise of cards from the disappointing Clash at the Summit and the small Lost Link set, both Japan. The set will have 102 not counting any shiny secret rare cards, which means some cards will be left out (as the total is around 120, so possibly 18 can be ommited). And the way I see it, the set will not be good. There are a grand total of 6 good cards out of 102. That is worse than Delta Species and Majestic Dawn from above. Here are the 6 good cards from the set:

-Machamp Prime (a powerful card to use, even though Mewtwo Lv X can counter it)
-Magnezone Prime (a Claydol replacement)
-Gengar Prime (a potential devastating card)
-Golduck (can self heal and power up)
-Bronzong (brings out the Legend set from the deck)
-Rescue Energy (self explanatory)

There is one card that is recieving tons of hype called Lost World. This card is Stadium card that adds a additional victory condition when 6 pokemon are in the Lost World. This card sounds good but there have been rumors that this card may get "banned" or excluded.
If the card is ommited, then that is one hyped up card NOT in the set.
If the card is NOT ommited, then game will be overcentralized on sending pokemon to the Lost World, rather than KO's and 90% of the decks will contain Lost World, Gengar Prime, and Hunter. This will break the game and will have a strong central inbalance if not banned.

So either way the card is bad (not unplayable bad, but broken bad). It may not make the cut or if it does it can monopolize the Pokemon TCG into Lost World.

Celebi and Mew Primes have interesting powers/bodies/attacks, but their HP is very low, even for a basic Prime.
Absol Prime has better HP, but that card is not that good anyway. High Damage for gutting a card to the Lost World. Not worthy.
Electrode Prime can KO itself for possible energy attachings, but it's too risky to give your opponent a prize, though. Even to use Twins. Not to mention you may be pwned by Sablelock after Twins.

Yanmega Prime is an OK card. It can do 70 damage with no energy BUT you must have the same amount of cards in your hands as your opponent. That would not be so bad as you can attack for high as the use of Judge or Copycat, but when you are not using your cards, you have to play extra carefully and may do sacrifices that hurt you in the long run (i.e. using a trainer to no or minimal effect only to not have it when needed). Imagine if you have 5 cards after a draw: 2 energy, 2 supporters and a irrelevant evolution, while your opponent has 2 cards. You can only trim your hand to 3. Reverse the amount roles and unless you have a card to help you out (Judge, Copycat, or a card draw for more), you are fucked. But all that aside, you think this card will amount to anything, think again. Yanmega is a grass (well, Bug/Flying but Bug is represented by Grass in TCG), Jumpluff's popularity is dying quick and being harshfully panned as "inferior" to Charizard AR. If Jumpluff is being bashed like this, what makes you think Yanmega can do any better? That Body as stated earlier can only do so much, this is not like Gyarados SF which can constantly do 30-90 energyless.

Electivire is another hyped card, it can damage 50 to everyone with an Energy, but being weak to Donphan and with Lucian's Assignment of Shaymin, that can be countered with no problem. If Ursaring Prime's usage is low from being Donphan weak, how will Electivire do?

The Magmortar card in Triumphant is pretty much a slap to the face to that awesome fire-type. Unleashed Magmortar can damage better and is good with Delcatty PT. Supreme Victors Magmortar can be good with Leafeon UD. Secret Wonders Magmortar is one of the best cards ever made. And MT Magmortar is a decent card with Magby. Triumphant Magmortar just can discard from the oppoent's deck with energies, which would not be bad, but it's flippy discarding ruins the deal. 60 for 3 is bad.

-Victreebel is mediocre. A Stage 2 that can trap and do 30 damage for 2, heal, and inflict status conditions. Blaziken FB X destroys it in one hit.
-Rapidash is just lame, 3 for 50, sucks.
-Kricketune is flippy
-Mamoswine is too costly to use
-Wailord is also a terrible card
-Nidoqueen's OK, but a Stage 2 draw power 30 for 1 attack is strange and unorthdox. Magnezone Prime is better.
-Non-Prime Celebi is relatively useless
-Grumpig sucks
-Machamp is OK
-Nidoking is costly
-Cubone's HP is not good enough for a wall (can be shut down by Dialga G X), Marowak is too situational and flippy.
-Lunatone and Solrock does not even do much together this time around.
-Drapion is just like Torterra UL, only without healing and lower HP.
-Sharpedo is a novelty
-Aggron is also a novelty
-Pidgeot is not much compared to FRLG Pidgeot
-Lickilicky sucks
-Ditto restricts, but also wastes a slot your bench, too and can be sniped.
-Ambipom is nothing worthwhile
-Porygon-Z needs Rainbow Energy to not suffer conditions/damage. Not good. Ursaring Prime is better with Rainbow and DCE.
-Twins and Blackbelt are good to use BUT can only be use when losing and not when winning.
-Alph is just a poorman's Here Comes Team Rocket.
-I would talk about the LEGEND but PokemanDanLv45 does the job for me. Although I kinda think Dialga/Palkia LEGEND can devastating, but is slow.
-Dragonite and Altaria are alright but do not stand out as good.
-The majority of the Lost Link have a theme of Lost Zone involvement (hence the name), not many of them are special, except Lucario and Snorlax, which are kinda interesting, but involve heavy sacrifice. Plus a majority of them may be on the chomping block, anyway.

But after walls of text talking bad about Triumphant is, why do I put it at the very bottom when I am merely disappointed by it? I'll tell you why:

It's because Triumphant has the largest amount of hype and fanboys of any set to be released imaginable! People are treating Triumphant as GOD!

I mean there is are topicsrepeatably tributing Triumphant on how amazing that set is. And it's much worse than difference of opinions because OTHER SETS were being bashed for the sake of Triumphant. The first topic was a suggestion thread on what box to get and the majority hyped up Triumphant as being a AMAZING set and that the topic creator needs to get one. They were hyping it up so bad, it's like they were paid to do so. And all the other options were being harshly panned to hell, Rising Rivals, Supreme Victors, Arceus, and Undaunted, the latter which got it the worst. Also the other 2 HS sets (original and Unleashed) got bashed, too, as Triumphant is the only good set. Triumphant cannot even handle Neo Discovery, let alone an HGSS set. I even posted there on an alternative on how Triumphant is overhyped and that Undaunted is better. That piece of shit of person, DarkPkmnTrainer dismissed almost all of them as bad, even though Triumphant has further amount of shitty cards and Epseon, Umbreon, Scizor, and Raichu Primes are all better than Mew, Celebi, Absol, and Electrode Primes. The rest of the topic went into DPT and his cohort, ogreray, Hikikomori-san, dragonpulse20, and many others started hyping up triumphant even more and telling umbreon101 to not buying anything especially Undaunted, like if it's the end of the fucking world if Undaunted or any other non-Triumphant set is bought. The only people that were conformists that DID NOT act like a fucking Triumphant fanboy were Vulpix Yolk and minimidget94.

You know what? After this topic, I'd gladly buy a Undaunted box over Triumphant any day of the week. Because it's the better set. Triumphant is the black sheep of the HGSS series and the weakest entry yet. And because of these fanfucks, I will no buy ANY boxes of Triumphant or attend any prereleases of that piece of shit set. These fuckers have sworn off ever buying more than a few packs of this garabage. In fact, I will no longer refer Truimphant by name, instead I will now refer to it as Triumphail. HS Trumphail is a fucking disgrace of a Pokemon set, it's fucking horrible and the faboys can suck my fucking cock. Half the Primes are shit and it's not worth any hype. DO NOT buy a box of that piece of shit set, just spend on single cards and never touch that shit set that only cointains 6 worthwhile cards. I heard that the box will be go up in price, It's already overpriced, given that $85 is too much much for an empty, desolate, overrated set. Arceus, Rival Rivals, Supreme Victors, HGSS, Unleashed, and Undaunted are all far better than Triumphail. As far as I'm concerned, the entire set is just hype and nothing else. Triumphail is pretty The Dark Knight of Pokemon TCG sets and unlike the movie, the set is pretty much failure.

Triumphail sucks and so does the fucking hyping fanboys. Fuck them all.

Next time I will debunk the living shit out these fuckers.

  2. Thanks for telling me about Triumphant! I was never interested in that crap until now, so I stare at images of the cards and complain about Rapidash's useless PokeBody. But what about seven good cards? Junk Arm's good too.
